Ireland centre Chris Farrell ruled out of Six Nations

Ireland’s impressive Six Nations campaign has received a huge dent after it was revealed that star player Chris Farrell has picked up a long-term injury, according to a report on BBC Sport.

The Ireland centre has been in top form so far in the Six Nations but has picked up an injury in training which has ruled him out for the remainder of the tournament.

Farrell has damaged some ligaments in his knee and will miss the crucial matches against Scotland and England as they look to win the Grand Slam this year.

The injury occurred during training when his foot got stuck in the turf.

A statement from Irish Rugby said:

Chris Farrell received treatment on the field earlier today after twisting his knee in the turf.

He was sent for a precautionary scan this afternoon, which indicated some ligament damage had occurred and he will now see a specialist. Chris is unlikely to be available for the remainder of the Six Nations.

Farrell is expected to be replaced by Garry Ringrose in the Ireland midfield.

Ireland have won their opening three matches of the Six Nations and are hoping to stop England from creating history this year, as they look to become the first team ever to win the tournament three times in succession.

Ireland are currently at the top of the standings and could be in for a Grand Slam showdown with England at Twickenham in the final round of fixtures.
