Ireland suffer huge blow as Van der Flier ruled out for season

Ireland have received a huge blow to their Six Nations campaign as Josh van der Flier has been ruled out for the remainder of the season, according to a report on Talksport.

The flanker has been officially ruled out of the competition after suffering a serious knee injury in his side’s win over France in Paris.

The Leinster back-row forward was forced off early from the match due to the injury with nobody knowing how long he would be out for.

However, it was confirmed today that it is a very serious injury with the 24-year-old set to miss the rest of Leinster’s season.

Ireland are now hoping that flanker Sean O’Brien can recover from his hip injury as soon as possible to play in the Six Nations.

Ireland secured a dramatic victory after Johnny Sexton’s last-minute drop-goal sparked wild celebrations from the Irish and left the French dejected.

Ireland’s chances of stopping England from making history has taken a massive hit with this injury but Dan Leavy impressed when he came on to replace Van der Flier.

Ireland host Italy on Saturday in a game that they are expected to win and Leave is expected to be named in the starting line-up.
