Ireland lose trio for duration of Six Nations

Ireland’s 2016 RBS Six Nations campaign has taken another turn for the worse as Sean O’Brien, Mike McCarthy and Dave Kearney have been ruled out for the remainder of the tournament after the trio suffered injuries in their 10-9 loss to France last Saturday.

The news comes as another blow to head coach Joe Schmidt as flanker O’Brien was only making his comeback from injury to suffer a grade two hamstring tear whilst Kearney has suffered a shoulder AC joint injury.

And, as reported by the BBC, the news is particularly bad for lock McCarthy as the Leinster star is out for the remainder of the season after suffering a concussion that a specialist advised that he should not return to the pitch before next season.

However, there has been some good news to reach the Ireland camp this week as Jonny Sexton and Keith Earls have both returned to training and head coach Joe Schmidt will be looking to turn in some good performances in the final three matches despite the reality that his side are unlikely to successfully defend their Six Nations title.
