Worcester Warriors have signed prop James Johnston following his release from Wasps, as they look to add depth to their squad as they battle against relegation from the Aviva Premiership.
Johnston, who has previous experience in the Aviva Premiership with Saracens and Harlequins, left Wasps without having played a game for the Midlands-based outfit after picking up an injury during Samoa’s build up to the 2015 Rugby World Cup.
Johnston has a total of 153 appearances in the Aviva Premiership, and a total of 20 points scored. He also has a winners medal, having been in the Premiership winning Harlequins side of 2012. He has 14 international caps for Samoa, and has scored five points for his country.
Speaking after completing the signing of Johnston , Worcester Warriors director of rugby Dean Ryan said:
“The scrum is an area where we’ve lacked a bit of experience,”
“He has a wealth of top-class game-time and adds great depth to our front row.”
The director of rugby at his former club Wasps, Dai Young, said:
“It is unfortunate that James has not been able to train regularly since joining the club, as we were really looking forward to seeing the impact he could make in a Wasps shirt.
“Unfortunately for both parties, this couldn’t happen and he leaves with our very best wishes for his next steps.”
