O’Gara linked with Italy coaching role

Former Ireland fly-half Ronan O’Gara has recently been linked with a coaching position in Italy’s national team, as per the Irish Examiner.

Current Italy coach Jacques Brunel looks set to be replaced after the 2016 Six Nations, and it’s Harlequins’ Director of Rugby Conor O’Shea that is the very likely to take-over the Azzurri.

However – after becoming part of Racing 92’s backroom staff in 2013 – O’Gara has now found himself linked with a coaching position at Italy, if O’Shea was to be appointed as head coach.

O’Gara, 38, retired from rugby in 2013, putting an end to a truly magnificent playing career with Munster and Ireland. The accurate goal-kicker was also included in three British & Irish Lions tours (2001, 2005, 2009).

Since then, he’s been teaching his trade to Racing’s Benjamin Dambielle, Maxime Javaux, Remi Tales and now….Dan Carter – although, really, Carter has already mastered it.

If O’Shea was to be appointed Italy coach next year, it’d be likely that O’Gara would be just one of many Irishmen to go over with the former London Irish boss.
