Preview: Scarlets vs Racing 92

The Scarlets will look to get their European campaign back on track as they welcome Racing 92 to Parc y Scarlets.

The West Walians went down 15-11 away to Northampton in the European Champions Cup to make qualifying to the knockout stages less likely.

Coach Wayne Pivac has made three changes – hooker Ken Owens, prop Phil John and fly-half Dan Jones all coming in.

Meanwhile superstar signing Dan Carter is not available for Racing, while Welsh international Luke Charteris, who apperars set to sign for Bath, starts for the French outfit.

Racing 92 will be playing their first match of the tournament after their initial opener against Glasgow Warriors was postponed due to the tragic events in Paris last Friday.

A minute’s silence and the French national anthem – La Mareillaise – will be played before kick-off.

And Pivac expects the match to be a highly emotional encounter.

He said: “What happened in Paris last weekend has touched everybody, really.

“And certainly, personally, having lived in France and got friends over there it was very, very concerning to see that happen.

“There is going to be an emotional occasion out there on Saturday. It affects everybody in some way but for the people of France and the players coming across even more so.”

The New Zealander also insisted the match is a “must win game.”

“The first two games are vital in this tournament and it’s important that we get some points on the board early or otherwise we’re chasing the pack,” he added.

“We’re expecting a big battle up front from Racing 92 and having a couple of players coming back from injury is good. We’ll be slightly stronger than last week.”

The match is a must-win for the homeside and with their exciting backline, incredible home-form and knack of big European performances, I am expecting the Scarlets to come out on top by eight points.
