Jonathan Davies to rejoin Scarlets

Wales centre Jonathan Davies will rejoin the Scarlets for the start of next season in a deal set to be announced very soon, according to a report by WalesOnline.

A former captain at Parc y Scarlets, British Lion Davies left the Scarlets in the midst of the Welsh exodus to join French outfit Clermont Auvergne in 2014.

But, following a succesful first season which included a European Champions Cup final appearance, the 48-cap international has decided it is time to return home.

And his decision will come as a boost to both the region and the WRU.

Davies is one of Warren Gatland’s key men and playing in Wales will allow the Wales coaching team better access to the player than before.

The centre had told Clermont he wanted to leave at the end of last season and is believed to have started negotiations with the Scarlets and the WRU back in October.

While not stated in the report, it is likely the deal will be in the form of a National Dual Contract

The move should be announced on Wednesday as the WRU benefit from a large financial boost.

Several deals, including a £33 million kit deal with Under Armour and a new television deal with the Six Nations, have boosted the funds of the union as they looked to secure the return of more exiles.

Northampton’s George North and Toulon’s Leigh Halfpenny are believed to be the next targets as WRU Chairman Gareth Davies aims to make the Welsh regions more competitive alongside the national team.
