Toulouse target Wales World Cup star

Wales No. 8 Taulupe Faletau has emerged as a target for French giants Toulouse as his future at the Dragons remains in doubt.

The Top 14 club see the Welsh international as a potential replacement for Louis Picamoles as the Frenchman heads to Northampton next season.

According to the Western Mail, Toulouse are willing to offer Faletau an incredible contract worth £650,000 a year, which would make him one of the highest-paid players in the astronomical salaries in France.

The interest will no doubt spark action from Bath who have made no secret of their desire to sign Faletau at the end of his contract next year.

The 52-cap Faletau was refused permission to move to the Aviva Premiership club by the WRU with Warren Gatland keen to keep him in Wales, even though the Dragons wanted to cash in on the player for a fee rather than see him leave for free next year.

There will be another attempt to get Faletau signed onto a dual contract but given how he missed the deadline to sign one last season, it would appear there is a desire to head elsewhere.

Should Faletau move to either England or France however, it is understood he will be free to carry on playing for Wales despite the regulations of Gatland’s law.
