New Zealand 34-17 Australia: Five things we learned

On a balmy October evening at Twickenham, New Zealand made history as they fought off a spirited Australia comeback to secure a record third Webb Ellis Cup.

The All Blacks looked to be romping towards an historic victory as tries from Nehe Milner-Skudder and Ma’a Nonu gave them a 21-3 lead.

But scores from David Pocock and Tevita Kuridrani gave the Wallabies hope as the match neared its climax.

However, in the end, the nerveless boot of Dan Carter steadied the Kiwi ship and when Beauden Barrett sprinted onto Ben Smith’s clearance kick, history was made as New Zealand became the first team to retain their title.

As the dust settles on a fantastic tournament, here are five things we learned from the final.
