Leicester Tigers have entered negotiations with former South Africa captain, Jean de Villiers (BBC).
Tigers’ director of rugby Richard Cockerill last month hinted that discussions with de Villiers could be over after the 34-year-old centre announced his retirement from Test rugby.
However, whilst speaking on BBC Radio Leicester on Wednesday, Cockerill announced that Leicester are still in negotiations with him.
“We have had discussions with de Villiers for a few months, but at this moment no deal is signed.”
De Villiers made his name in South Africa playing for the Stormers and Western Province in his 14-year playing career. He also had a spell at Irish side Munster in 2009/10.

It was his international career with the Springboks that is most impressive though. He is the most capped South African centre of all time (71) and scored an impressive 27 tries in a green shirt. And in 2012, de Villiers was named as the South Africa captain.
It will be interesting to see if de Villiers will go to Leicester Tigers to actually finish his career.
In the meantime, Tigers’ winger Gonzalo Camacho has penned a new one-year contract at the club.
The Argentinian is yet to play for Leicester in his two-year spell there due to injury but made his international comeback against Australia in the Rugby Championship this summer.
He will be looking to turn his club career around after a horrid two years in England.
