England preparing offer for Schmidt

According to French news outlet Midi Olympique, the RFU are ready to offer Ireland a hefty £1.5 million to acquire the services of coach Joe Schmidt.

Schmidt has done a truly excellent job as Ireland’s head coach since getting appointed in 2013. He has guided the Irish to two successive Six Nations titles and led them to brilliant Pool D results in the World Cup.

However, Ireland were knocked out by the fighting and enthusiastic Argentina in the quarter-finals.

Now, Stuart Lancaster’s England future remains doubtful. England failed to get through to the knockout stages of their own World Cup after succumbing to Wales and Australia in a tough Pool A.

The RFU now feel that Joe Schmidt is the man to succeed Stuart Lancaster in the hot seat. They are also offering a staggering £1.5 million for Ireland to allow the New Zealander to part company with them.

Schmidt made his name at Leinster as a head coach and subsequently earned himself the top job in Ireland. He has now established himself as a quality coach, and the RFU think he’ll be the right man who can rejuvenate England ahead of the 2016 RBS Six Nations.

What do you think? Will Joe Schmidt succeed Stuart Lancaster with the England job? Let us know @ReadRugbyUnion.
