On the fourth day of the 2015 Rugby World Cup, it was the first rest day with no games before the games restart on Wednesday with Scotland vs Japan.
The big news of the day was that Scotland full-back Stuart Hogg is fit to return after picking up an injury in last month’s warm-up victory over Italy. His return to fitness has also allowed Vern Cotter to announce his team going into the game against Japan on Wednesday at Kingsholm.
Scotland: Hogg; Seymour, Bennett, Scott, Lamont; Russell, Laidlaw (Captain) Dickinson, Ford, Nel, Gilchrist, J. Gray, Wilson, Hardie, Denton.
Replacements: Brown, Grant, Welsh, R. Gray, Strauss, Pyrgos, Horne, Maitland.
The other news of the day was that Wales are hopeful that Liam Williams will be fit to take a significant part in the rest of their World Cup campaign after picking up a thigh injury in their game against Uruguay on Sunday.
Finally, Rugby League convert Sam Burgess has said he thinks he is ready to take a place in England’s starting line-up for their game against Wales on Saturday.
According to ESPN , he said: “I enjoyed my performance and I thought I added something to the team,” He also said: “The boys before me had laid a great foundation so that we were able to come on and finish the job off.
“Yes, of course I feel ready, I feel comfortable. I’ve been around this group a long time now.
“We believe in each other and we believe in ourselves, that’s certainly the case for myself. You want everyone to do well and that’s the great thing about this squad. If I was handed the chance, then sure, I feel ready.”
However, it remains unlikely Burgess will be given a chance with England coach Stuart Lancaster likely to continue with Brad Barritt who had a poor game against Fiji after only recently returning from injury.
