Exeter have had a very difficult start to the season and have picked up only one win from five games in all competitions. They nearly pulled off a famous win in Europe but lost out by three points to French Champions, Toulouse. In round four they lost 20-7 in difficult conditions away to the Bristol Bears, in a gameweek where all the home teams won. Bristol went 10-0 ahead and despite a Greg Fisilau try in the second half to bring it back to 10-7, a penalty and try for the home side made it 20-7 at the full-time whistle.

Harlequins pulled off a huge home win against Saracens, having lost all three of their opening three games of the season, but after a win against Vannes in the Challenge Cup, they bounced back their form. In the win over Saracens, they scored four tries in the first half to carry a 26-10 lead into the break. William Porter scored the crucial first score of the second-half to put Harlequins 33-10 ahead and a Sarances try was not enough to deny them of their victory.
