Tom Curry Commits Future to Sale Sharks with Two-Year Deal
Tom Curry has signed a two-year contract extension with Sale Sharks, keeping the England flanker at the club until the end of the 2027-28 season. The Tom Curry Sale Sharks contract removes any doubt about his future just as he returns to full fitness.
Curry made his first-team debut for Sale aged 18 in October 2016 and has worn the shirt ever since. His twin brother Ben plays for the club too, and the pair have grown up as Sale supporters. Curry has earned 71 caps for England since making the step up to international rugby.
Official Contract Details and Alex Sanderson Sourcing
Sale director of rugby Alex Sanderson explained why a two-year deal suited both player and club. He said the length reflects Curry’s own priorities around fitness and longevity.
“The terms are a couple of years and that’s on Tom’s desire to ensure that he’s physically in the best spot to be able to honour his contract, to play a load of games for the next two years,” Sanderson said.
Sanderson also described Curry as central to Sale’s identity on and off the pitch. “He’s fundamental to us, in terms of being the keystone, really, to that whole group,” he said.
According to Sanderson, it was Curry himself who pushed to keep Sale’s core group of players together. “He was the one, after some really honest conversations, that said we need to keep this group together, the core group together,” Sanderson said.
Curry’s own words carried the same message. “Sale Sharks means everything to me and this is the club I have supported my whole life,” he said. “I’m very proud of the hard work we’ve put in over the last 10 years to get the club to where it is now, but I know how much more we have to give and that’s the reason I want to stay. There’s no place I would rather be.”
The extension lands amid wider contract talk across the Premiership, with Northampton flanker Henry Pollock recently turning down new contract offers of his own.
Injury Recovery, Medical Progress, and Squad Impact
Curry missed most of the 2023-24 season after he was diagnosed with femoroacetabular impingement syndrome, a hip condition. He had surgery in February 2024 and returned to top-level rugby just four months later. In December 2024 he underwent a further stem-cell procedure to support his recovery.
Sanderson says Curry’s recovery has gone beyond what doctors expected. “He’s surpassing expectations, his own medical expectations and what’s gone before him in terms of the [hip] injury that he had,” he said.
“We’re not seeing any signs of wear and tear at this point and it might come in to factor later down the line but at this point he’s as fresh and as mobile as he’s ever been.”
That medical picture matters for Sale’s back row planning. The Tom Curry Sale Sharks contract secures a player Sanderson regards as the keystone of the squad for two more seasons. Upcoming Timeline and Long-Term Role at Sale
Sanderson set out how Sale plan to manage Curry’s fitness across the new deal, rather than working to a fixed end date. “Then we both said we’ll see where his body’s at, at that point, with the want and desire for him to finish his career at Sale,” he said.
The extension runs to the end of the 2027-28 campaign, giving Sale certainty over one of their most important forwards for two more seasons. Full details of the announcement, including further comments from Sanderson, are in the BBC Sport report on Tom Curry.
