All Blacks Recall Rieko Ioane As Injury Cover Ahead Of Ireland Showdown At Eden Park

The All Blacks have recalled Rieko Ioane into camp as injury cover ahead of Saturday’s Nations Championship Test against Ireland at Eden Park, with wings Leroy Carter and Fehi Fineanganofo both picking up knocks in the win over Italy.

According to New Zealand Rugby, Carter is managing an AC joint problem and Fineanganofo a shoulder issue sustained during the 47-17 victory in Wellington, prompting head coach Dave Rennie to call the Blues utility back into the group. Ioane had been a notable omission from Rennie’s reset of the All Blacks squad after a sabbatical stint at Leinster, so his recall — even as short-term cover — will be read as significant ahead of a bruising few weeks on the road.

Tuipulotu And Jacobson Both Passed Fit For Ireland Test

There was better news elsewhere in camp, with Rennie confirming Patrick Tuipulotu and Luke Jacobson have both been passed fit, despite Jacobson having been withdrawn at half-time against Italy. Their availability strengthens the pack New Zealand can call on for a Test that will decide who tops the early Nations Championship southern standings, with the All Blacks aiming to defend their unbeaten record at Eden Park against an Ireland side unbeaten through two rounds themselves.

Rennie’s squad reconvenes in Auckland through the week, with final Test selection expected closer to Saturday’s 7.10pm kick-off.
