Rugby News Today as we get closer to the European semi-finals. This means that throughout Europe and South Africa there are only eight teams preparing for matches. This has meant that news is slow in the rugby world.

Roots banned for three matches

Exeter Chiefs back-rower, Ethan Roots has been handed a three game ban for “striking” his opponent, Jack Innard. The ban will rule him out of this Saturday’s Challenge Cup semi-final against Ulster and the next two Gallagher Prem matches. The back rower left Innard with a concussion and the pair would describe each other as friends.

Williams ruled out for the remainder of the Six Nations

Winger Catherine Richards has also been ruled out for the remaining fixtures against Italy and Ireland. Wales have had a difficult tournament so far losing to Scotland, France and England. They haven’t won in the Six Nations since the 2024 edition of the tournament. Wales have added two under-21 players to the squad in centre Freya Bell and full-back Amy WIlliams.

Bath prepare to give 18-year-old a debut

Bath have an injury crisis at scrum-half after Bernard van der Linde picked up an injury in the defeat to Northampton Saints. England international is also “touch and go” after a shoulder injury which had ruled him out of the win over Harlequins. This leaves Tom Carr-Smith as the only fit senior scrum-half. Isaac Mears was playing for England Students having won the BUC Championship with Bath University this season. Mears is son of former Bath, England and Lions hooker Lee Mears.

The youngster could be facing off against Maxime Lucu who ahs been one of the best players in the Champions Cup for Bordeaux Begles this season.
