Scarlets have taken a decisive step toward stability, confirming they intend to sign the new Professional Rugby Agreement (PRA25) shortly.
This follows the collapse of the proposed Cardiff takeover.
The update comes after the Welsh Rugby Union confirmed that talks with Y11, owners of the Ospreys, had ended.
With that off the table, the WRU has re-offered PRA25 to both regions, bringing them in line with Cardiff and Dragons.
Scarlets had previously refused to sign the agreement. Concerns centred on competitive balance after the WRU took control of Cardiff. Now, the region has shifted its position.
“Scarlets welcome today’s announcement from the Welsh Rugby Union confirming that the club has been offered the opportunity to enter the Professional Rugby Agreement (PRA25),” the club said.
“We will continue to engage constructively with the WRU on its future strategy, with the aim of signing the PRA25 agreement shortly following due diligence.”
The club believes the revised framework offers greater clarity. It also provides a more balanced structure for the professional game in Wales. That marks a clear change from the uncertainty of recent months.
Off the field, confidence continues to grow in Llanelli. Scarlets recently secured fresh investment from their funding group, reinforcing belief in the club’s long-term direction.
“This follows significant new investment into Scarlets by the club’s funding group who continue to be firmly committed to our future success and growth,” the statement added.
Support has also remained strong. Early season ticket sales have picked up, while sponsors and partners have extended key agreements.
“Our future rugby programme is in place to drive higher performance standards and improved results to bring Scarlets back to top tier play-offs.”
The club expects to confirm new signings and contract extensions soon. Those moves should strengthen the squad ahead of next season.
Despite ongoing debate around reducing the number of Welsh regions, this decision brings short-term clarity. For Scarlets, it signals progress, stability and a chance to reset focus on performance.
