Leinster have announced the resigning of Ireland International out-half, Harry Byrne.

The player turns 27 tomorrow and is currently Leinster’s top scorer for the season with 109 points.

Harry Byrne’s career so far

When Harry Byrne came into the Leinster team, he was under the apprenticeship of Jonny Sexton. He also played behind his older brother, Ross.

He went on to make his Ireland debut in 2021 and has played four times for his country so far.

Byrne has been recognised as one of the best and most consistent goalkickers in Ireland. There were many supporters who were calling for Byrne to be given more of a chance as an Ireland 10 for this.

Competition and 10 troubles this year

Currently at Leinster, there is huge competition for the 10 jersey. Sam Prendergast was the supposed starting 10, but as the year has gone on, that assurance has faded. There has also been competition from Ciaran Frawley. Byrne is the player of the three who wasn’t included in the Ireland Six Nations squad but has been trusted with the 10 jersey in the big matches. Byrne was 10 when Leinster booked their place in the Champions Cup semi-final with a win against Sale.

Sam Prendergast did put in a player of the match performance against Ulster when most of the first string were rested.

Frawley is on his way out west next year as he will be signing for Connacht.

Leinster in 2025/26

Leinster had a difficult start to the year, but have set themselves up for knockout season in a good position. They face Toulon in the Champions Cup semi-final and are also in a prime position to book a place in the top four of the URC.
