Australia have found a new potential star that could help them build towards a home World Cup in 2027.

Zac Lomax made the switch from the NRL to Super Rugby during this season and has been reaching milestones at a rapid pace.

Super Rugby career so far

Lomax has been playing on the wing since he left the Parramatta Eels for the Western Force. He also played wing in rugby league, but could also play centre and full-back. He left the NRL scoring 58 tries in 133 games. He also scored two tries in his three tests for Australia.

Lomax scored a try in his first Super Rugby start, having only played 20 minutes off the bench before that.

The try helped the Force get back to 19-29 against the Crusaders and set the home side up to go on and win against the New Zealanders.

State of Australia team

Australia had a busy 2025, hosting the British and Irish Lions tour. Despite looking very weak in the opening two tests, the Wallabies looked a lot more comfortable as they won the third test. They then started their Rugby Championship campaign excellently as they beat South Africa. However, they only won two of the 10 remaining games in the year. A win at home to Argentina and also against Japan.

It is a big Nations Championship for the Australians as they host Ireland, France and Italy.

Australia currently sit eighth in the World Rankings.

Where would Zac Lomax fit?

Lomax is a powerful runner and an excellent finisher. Australia’s current wingers are mostly built around pace. This is definitely something that Lomax still possesses, but also adds more.

If he makes a debut in 2026, he could be crucial to building for this home World Cup.
