Ireland gained a crucial bonus point as they battled past a spirited Russia side in Kobe.
Ireland took the lead within two minutes, after some quick passing and great movement with the ball. Rob Kearney was the man to score the opening try of the game, a try which was converted by Johnny Sexton.
Sexton was instrumental in their second try ten minutes later, when he provided the kick through Peter O’Mahony to score in between the posts. This gave Ireland an easy conversion which put them 14-0 to the good early on. They were already halfway to their bonus point. Igor Galinovskiy collided with the post when the try was scored, which meant that he had to be replaced.
The game went quiet for a while, with Ireland making an array of unforced errors. However, they managed to make the sin bin advantage count, with another try after an attacking scrum. Fedotko was the man to be sin binned shortly before that try. Johnny Sexton came off at half time, which was a blow for Ireland.
Despite Andrey Ostrikov going in the sin bin early on in the second half, Ireland did not manage to take advantage of this. However, they did finally manage to score that crucial fourth try just after the hour mark, through Andrew Conway’s solo run. This secured the bonus point. At 28-0 up, the team in green were in cruise control.
Ireland did manage to add one more try before full time. Garry Ringrose finished a sharp move to score, with yet another successful conversion. Ringrose almost had another try in the closing stages. However, he fumbled the ball which was confirmed by TMO. The game ended up at 35-0.
