James Haskell open to pay cut in bid to extend England career

James Haskell has admitted he is open to the idea of taking a pay cut, if it gives him the chance to extend his England career as far as the 2019 World Cup, the Guardian report.

Haskell, 32, will leave Wasps in May after spending 12 years across two spells with the club and he is yet to find a new side.

The flanker has been linked with Northampton and Bristol in recent weeks but his situation is more complicated than others.

Due to Haskell’s involvement with England, the more involvement he has with his country, means the less attractive a signing he is for potential club teams.

Haskell is believed to be on a salary in the region of £250,000 a year and when asked if he would accept a lower salary, the flanker said:

100%. You have to look at what is important to you, what your priorities are and my priority is to try to be in this England squad going towards a World Cup in Japan.

Haskell was talking after taking part in an open training session at Twickenham on Friday, and is expected to be involved against Scotland next weekend.
