Ahead of the 2016-17 season, Scarlets have signed lock Tadhg Beirne from Leinster, their official website confirmed.
The 24-year-old has made four appearances for Leinster whilst also rising through the ranks at international level, making appearances for Ireland U20s and Ireland Sevens. Beirne brings youth to the Scarlets side, with the second-row player being only 24. Scarlets will look to bolster their pack by obtaining the signature of this promising Irishman.
Scarlets General Manager, Jon Daniels, hailed the ambitious move.
He has made a brave move to leave Ireland to pursue a new challenge and further his rugby career.
Daniels also believes the player will improve and develop into a great talent whilst being with Scarlets.
But he’s an intelligent well rounded young man who I’m sure will thrive in our environment.
Beirne is also excited about his move to Scarlets and cannot wait to get pre-season training underway.
I’m excited by the ambition and am really looking forward to getting pre-season underway.
Scarlets will be hoping to improve on their fifth-place finish in last season’s Pro 12 whilst also improving their European form. Last season, they finished bottom of their group in the European Champions Cup. They will discover their group stage opponents for next season’s Champions Cup on Wednesday as the draw is made.
