Wales international scrum-half Mike Phillips will join Sale Sharks next season, it has been announced.
Phillips, who failed to pen down a new deal at Top 14 side Racing 92, will join Sharks ahead of the 2016/17 Aviva Premiership season.
The Welshman will come in and fight with veteran Peter Stringer for a starting spot at scrum-half, although Phillips will find that a tough ask, with the 38-year-old in magnificent form. Despite his age, Stringer was recently awarded Sharks’ Player of the Year.

Phillips started his career at the Scarlets, and then moved to the Wesh capital to join Cardiff Blues. He transferred to Ospreys in 2008, and it was with the Ospreys where he showcased his talent as a world-class scrum-half. The 33-year-old has acquired 94 Wales caps, and has featured in two British & Irish Lions tours (2009, 2013).
Steve Diamond’s ambitions at the AJ Bell Stadium have now come to fruition with a tremendous signing like this. With Phillips and Stringer in the number-nine department, it’ll no doubt make Sharks a huge threat for next season.
