Scarlets 21-19 Connacht: Five things we learnt

The Scarlets returned to the summit of the PRO12 with a dramatic victory over Connacht at Parc y Scarlets as the West Walians put their Christmas woes behind them.

Despite being hindered by a lengthy injury list, Wayne Pivac’s men showed tremendous character to edge out a hardfought win having trailed with just a minute left on the clock.

Connacht had led at the break through a Matt Healy breakaway try but it could have been more with the TMO contentiously disallowing two tries.

To their credit, the Scarlets came out fighting in the second half and tries from Steff Evans and Michael Collins put them in front as the match headed towards a conclusion.

But it appeared to be in vain as Jack Carty’s 77th minute penalty looked to have taken the spoils for the visitors, only for Steve Shingler to be given a similar opportunity down the other end – and he made no mistake to steal the win.

So as the PRO12 takes another break for European competitions, here are five things we learnt from the Scarlets’ stunning victory.
