Racing Metro and New Zealand fly-half Dan Carter has been named the BBC’S 2015 Overseas Sports Personality of the Year.
Carter, who is widely regarded as the best rugby player in the world, won the Rugby World Cup with the All Blacks this year as the New Zealanders defeated Australia 34-17 in the tournament’s final.
The BBC award tops off what has been a brilliant year for Carter, with the Racing fly-half also having been named the World Player of the Year for 2015 – his third success with that particular title.
Speaking about his Overseas Personality award, Carter said:
“I’m thrilled to have been voted BBC Overseas Sports Personality of the Year by the UK public,” “It’s been an incredible year for me on British soil and the support has been phenomenal. It was an incredibly competitive shortlist and I’m honoured to have been recognised alongside these great sportsmen and women from around the world.”
He was named Man of the Match in that successful rugby World Cup final with the All Blacks. It was his second victory in that particular tournament, having also been in the 2011 side who became world champions.
Carter also boasts nine Tri-Nations titles and is the all-time leading Test points scorer, with 1,598 scored. He has been on the winning side in 99 of his 112 games with his national team.
