New Zealand Vs Australia: Five memorable matches

The trans-Tasman battle between Australia and New Zealand is a rivalry that runs deep within the psychology of both countries. It is applicable to rugby union but also spills over into hockey, rugby league, cricket and netball to name a few.

For nearly 80 years, New Zealand and Australia have gone toe to toe, on the international rugby stage, in one of the fiercest rivalries in sport, namely the Bledisloe Cup. This year, however, there was only the opportunity for two matches between the two warring sides.

One victory went to Australia to declare them the number one side in the Rugby Championship. One victory went to New Zealand, having suffered defeat and losing the Rugby Championship to Australia the All Blacks came out stronger to beat them in Eden Park.

This Saturday is considered by many the ultimate decider, not only the third meeting between these two sides with one victory apiece this year but perhaps far more importantly the Rugby World Cup final.
