RFU name England review panel

The RFU have named their five-man panel who will review England’s World Cup performance and decide the fates of Stuart Lancaster, Andy Farrell, Graham Rowntree and Mike Catt.

England became the first World Cup host nation to be knocked out of the competition in the group stage after they were beaten by both Wales and Australia.

England’s poor show has resulted in many questioning whether Lancaster is still the right man to lead the nation forwards and so the RFU’s panel will make the ultimate decision on his future.

Ian Gavan/Getty Images SportBBC Sport reports that the five-man panel will be led by Ian Ritchie and will consist of former Lions’ coach Sir Ian McGeechan, World Cup winner Ben Kay, England Rugby 2015 board member Ian Watmore and Professional Game Board Chairman Ian Metcalfe.

The RFU claims that “extensive input from players, coaches and management staff” will be taken into consideration throughout the hearing and may very well have a large say on whether Stuart Lancaster keeps hold of his job.

However, they also admitted: “that feedback will remain confidential, with recommendations then made to the RFU board.”

No date has been set as of yet for the review to be completed and the next RFU Board meeting will be held on the 17 November.
