Robshaw responds to England’s humbling defeat

England captain Chris Robshaw has accepted that he and his players have ‘let the country down’.

He praised the ‘outstanding’ support in a post-match interview whilst admitting that the Australians pressurised England in all areas of the game and that the Wallabies were the ‘better team’ on the night.

With all the pressure on the England side last night, they caved under the collective weight of the English public. Rather than ‘making them giants’ as Sean Bean and the O2 marketing team demanded, England were dwarfed by the creativity and organisation at the breakdown of Pocock, Foley and Hooper.

The decisions, not only in the last few months but the previous four years, of the Lancaster regime are now coming under increased scrutiny. It may be that when England’s 6 Nations campaign kicks off in 4 months time at Murrayfield, the coach and his captain may find that they will not have the opportunity to make it up to the English fans.
