Henshaw in fitness fight

Irish centre Robbie Henshaw is facing a race against time to be fully fit for Ireland’s next World Cup fixture against Romania on Sunday. Henshaw, who has 12 appearances for the Irish national side, pulled up with a hamstring injury while training, prior to Ireland’s opening fixture against Canada.

The news comes from BBC Sport which reports that Sexton was forced to sit out from Ireland’s game against Canada and so will be hoping that he can start his first game of the current World Cup on Sunday.

Richie Murpy, the skills coach for the Irish national side was optimistic that Henshaw would be back quickly because he is close to full fitness, but admitted that he wasn’t sure whether he would be fit enough for Sunday’s clash and so the coaching team will use Friday’s training session to decide whether the 22-year-old will be ready.

“Robbie is returning to full fitness and he is very close, whether Robbie will be ready for this week we are not quite sure at this moment, but we are hoping that he will. “He trained quite a lot today and will probably have to train back with the team in our next training session, which is on Friday.”

Joe Schmidt, manager of the Irish national side, will be hoping that Henshaw will be available on Sunday so that he can field his first-choice centre pairing for the first time this competition.
