Ireland secured their third Six Nations crown in five years after defeating Scotland 28-8 in Dublin, with England failing to match the Irish’s performance after they lost 22-16 to France in Paris.
With the weekends results meaning the title is heading to Ireland, the stage is now set for Ireland to win just their third Grand Slam in their history against Eddie Jones’ England at Twickenham on St Patrick’s Day.
Here are Read Rugby Union’s player ratings for the hosts, after a positive display in Dublin on Saturday afternoon.
1. Cian Healy: 6
He carried the ball well into the heaviest of traffic and made one superb surge, but was largely kept at bay by the Scots.
2. Rory Best: 7
As usual, Best worked hard at the breakdown and in defence, and made some positive calls after being awarded penalties.
3. Tadhg Furlong: 7
Made a couple of positive surges through blue jerseys and in all, a positive contribution.
4. James Ryan: 8
An impressive performance throughout the 80-minutes including a total of 13 tackles, 15 carries and two lineout steals.
5. Devin Toner: 7
A solid performance which saw him make 12 carries, bamboozle the Scots at the Irish throw.
6. Peter O’Mahony: 8
Was a nuisance for the opposition at the breakdown and when carrying ball, also impressive in defence.
7. Dan Leavy: 7
The Scots tried their best to minimise his threat, but he still managed to slow their ball down at times, working hard to defend throughout.
8. CJ Stander: 6
He was typically lively in both attack and defence but was well managed by the Scots who looked to quickly chop him down in the tackle.
9. Conor Murray: 7
Deserved his well taken try, brought his canny game management and covered in defence very well when called upon.
10. Johnny Sexton: 6
His kicking lacked its usual accuracy and some of his decision making was off, but carried and tackled with his usual commitment.
11. Jacob Stockdale: 8
Produced two moments that defined the first half of the match. The winger intercepted Peter Horne’s pass for a try and then some lovely footwork led to his second.
12. Bundee Aki: 7
A willing carrier throughout, protected the ball intelligently with good footwork and strength. Also helped Conor Murray over for a try.
13. Garry Ringrose: 8
Despite all his injuries this season, Ringrose produced a sensational performance going forward. Was Ireland’s cutting edge in attack.
14 Keith Earls: 7
Sharp in possession and beat five defenders in total during the win.
15. Rob Kearney: 9
Rightly awarded man-of-the-match for his performance. An excellent display with two clean breaks, three defenders beaten and was also very good in the air.
Replacements: 7
Jordi Murphy put in a solid performance, while Sean Cronin grabbed a try. Iain Henderson and Andrew Porter also added value when brought on.
