Ken Owens: ‘Warren Gatland doesn’t get enough credit’
Wales hooker Ken Owens believes his current boss Warren Gatland doesn’t get enough credit, Sky Sports report.
Gatland will take charge of his 100th Test next Saturday in Dublin, when his current team face his former side Ireland, as the Six Nations resumes.
Wales have won three Six Nations titles, including two Grand Slams under Gatland, who has also been a success as the coach of the British and Irish Lions in the past decade.
Gatland took Wales to a World Cup semi-final back in 2011, and guided the Lions to a series victory against Australia and a drawn series with two-time World Champions New Zealand.
Despite Gatland’s accolades, there has been plenty of criticism for the head coach after Wales’ defeat to England last week, something Owens believes is unfair.
He is a great coach, and his work with the Lions has put him up there with the best. Both inside and outside of Wales, for some reason, he’s always had to prove himself, despite helping transform Wales. We have won three (Six Nations) championships and two Grand Slams, during the last 10 years.
Owens, who played under Gatland for the Lions, was also quick to praise his current boss’ man management skills, and the pair will be looking to get back to winning ways next weekend in Dublin.
