Wales wing Alex Cuthbert will be ruled out of the remainder of the Six Nations with a knee injury.
The 27-year-old was training with his club Cardiff Blues ahead of a PRO14 match last weekend when the ailment was sustained.
Following scans and consultation with medical professionals, it has been determined Cuthbert must undergo knee surgery. The time-frame on his return to the pitch has been estimated at 4-6 weeks, which would take him up to the end of the tournament.
With this in mind, head coach Warren Gatland has seen fit to release the British and Irish Lion from the squad.
Cuthbert has not appeared in either of his country’s first two matches, with wing duty being entrusted to Josh Adams and Steff Evans.
Wales were defeated 12-6 at Twickenham by England, and thus will now have to be hoping other results can go their way if they are to be Six Nations champions this year.
